Coral Gables Hospital Names Physician of the Quarter

Coral Gables Hospital proudly honors Dr. Amadeo Cabral, general surgeon, as the hospital’s Physician of the Third Quarter of 2017. Dr. Cabral was nominated because his colleagues describe him as highly engaged and is beloved by both staff and patients. He was presented with a plaque in recognition of his outstanding service, commitment and dedication to caring for others.

Patients choose Coral Gables for a number of reasons, and one of those is our commitment to them from the moment they walk through our doors right up through their journey through rehabilitation. It’s that focus on rehab, on bridging the gap between successful procedure and ready for daily life, which leaves a positive impression on our patients.

Design Miami/ Concludes 13th Edition with Strong Sales

Design Miami/ completed its 13th edition this weekend, following six days of more than 38,000 visits by the collectible design world’s top collectors, curators and members of museum leadership.

Galleries exhibiting pieces designed with utopian aspirations took center stage. First-time gallerist, Converso, presented a solo show of pieces by California modernist architect, Albert Frey, who came to envision the California desert, particularly Palm Springs, as a utopian site to pursue the purity of his architectural ideals. Frey realized a small number of minimalist residences that organically integrate into the surrounding desert. Another first-timer to the fair, Maison Gerard, presented a futuristic isolation sphere from the 1970’s, designed by French architect Maurice-Claude Vidili, intended as a reprieve from the outside world. Fernando and Humberto Campana were a frequently showcased designer duo across the gallery program due to the strong demand for this aesthetic. Exhibitors included LIZWORKS, Friedman Benda, and more.

FIU community cooks for a cause: United Way

Eleven FIU students, staff and alumni rolled up their sleeves, sharpened their knives and set out to cook for a cause at the 2017 Taste of FIU Cook-Off. Hosted in the Graham Center ballrooms on Dec. 1, the cook-off was paired with a holiday auction. Proceeds from the events benefited United Way of Miami-Dade, a nonprofit that works to improve education, financial stability and health in the community. To participate in the cook-off, contestants each had to raise at least $400 for the cause.

Each round challenged the university’s aspiring chefs to use a basket of required “mystery ingredients” in their dishes, as well as any additional ingredients they chose from a table of fresh vegetables, fruits, spices and more. The produce was donated by Coosemans Worldwide, a specialty supplier that sources produce from around the world.

Featured Restaurant: Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink

Michael Symon and Scott Conant both loved the desserts at Michael’s Genuine (like homemade toaster pastries or the chocolate-packed Popcorn and Peanuts) on The Best Thing I Ever Ate. But for savory satisfaction, nothing quite compares to beloved brunch favorite the Roasted Double Yolk Egg with melted Gruyère.

Since 2007, Michael’s flagship restaurant has defined Genuine Hospitality, the special experience that results when delicious food and thoughtful service come together, designed by a team who cares about great product and making people happy. Locals and visitors alike embrace and crave this unique approach to dining out — some may consider Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink a second home, a place where they’re comfortable, that they want to share with friends.
